Okay, I was just wondering who all (if anyone) was interested in auditioning for all-state, all-county, or performing in solo and ensemble. if you are doing S&E, what are thinking about playing?
I have two pieces right now that I am thinking about with my instructor, the Poulenc Sonata, or the Hue Fantasie. Both excellent pieces, grade six. Its not too early to start thinking about it, especially if you are doing an upper-level piece.

With as much talent in the band, I would hope that a large amount of the band would do one of the three. Senors this is your last chance!!!!!!!!!

well, you were successful with a four, I mean, it wasn't above your skill, so I would look at some fives. Mr. P has a few, but I'm getting a CD with a bunch of stuff on it so, don't let what he has be your limit as to what you can play. Plus, the difficulty can fluctuate within grades too. You can start looking now, but I would say you'd be safe if you waited to really start working further into marching season, or even towards the end.
I would really hope that more people would participate in these too, there are certainly plenty who can handle it.

Hey katie, I really want to do S&E this year again. I have done it every year and I want to keep that up. I have been trying to talk to Mr. P about getting a solo so I can start working on it now because last year I waited to long and had problems I had to work out. What do you think about a duet between Sam and I. We talked about this last year and talked about it again this year while looking through the solos? Do you think Mr. P has any duet solo's? I think it would be fun to work on. Well I have to go but i do agree with you that more people need to participate in this because i think it comes across to people like all-state and all-county and it's not. To me I think it is easier because we can spend all our time focused on our solo and not on scales and having to memorize them.

I'm assuming this is Shelby, a duet would be awesome, both of you might feel better about doing something like that (i remember Sam freaking out a little bit). The only thing is I'm not sure if you can do duets for S&E. I know you can do trios and quartets etc, but you'd have to check on duets. Plus, that may prove more difficult that it seems. Its a lot harder to get to people to pull their own weight in terms of being on the same level for adjudication. It could be more nit-picky as far as coordination between parts and dynamics etc, because remember, both of you are being evaluated rather than you with piano accompaniment. It would be great if you did the ensemble part of S&E, but I think it might be more work than a solo. I also think if you started looking now, and started working, you could be ready for february with a solo.
