Hmmm...Lets see goals for myself this year would proly have to be: 1. To play louder and actually be heard this year 2. To keep my feet in step better this year, I had a big problem with it last year even though I was watching the drum majors, so I'll just concentrate more on it this year 3. And last but not least, to learn every note of every song as close to perfect as I can get it.
ok now for the band goals: 1. It would be really awesome if we all could not talk so much at practice, cuz we get more done the less we talk. 2. Also all of the intervals and for everyone to stay in step more (including myself...), so I guess the visual stuff as a whole. 3. Last year it seemed more of an issue, but I guess all the freshman that just started that are trying to correct the seniors and upperclassmen, sometimes you might be right, but upperclassmen don't like to be corrected by a freshman so if you see something or hear something that seems like it might be wrong, ask an instructor, or your section leader about it before you go accusing someone of a mistake, and let them take care of it.

Brandon-Trumpet
The main goal I have is being able to march and play music at the same time without knocking Richard's teeth out or running over um..... what was his name......... oh yeah Ben Pirkey.
Next would be to learn everyone's names (I don't know how teachers do it).
And to better improve myself as a musician overall.
As a freshmen I don't really know allot about what the band needs to focus on to improve the most, but one thing anyone could point out would be to be able focus after every set and let the officers do their jobs without talking over 100 or so people.
Also what I have noticed in the trumpet section is dressing to each other, we might as well be blindfolded.
And of course take 5th or 4th or any other number waved behind Mr.P's head.

3 goals eh? well let us see...
#1
to learn a new instrument (or in this case instruments)
#2
to not be afraid to make a mistake. like, play out! to have the maturity to make a mistake, fix it and get over it! that was my downfall last year: id drop a toss or something else and it would screw up my entire show. not this year.
#3
learn to read music. it wasnt very wise on my part to not know how to read music and switch to a music reading section (well...they all are, but obviously i didnt have to read music in guard) i now know how to read music a little, but i want to be able to read it better.
Well, there you have it. The novel that is my band goals.

Okay. Now that I spent forever trying to come up with five goals and then actually got online and found out that we actually need only three... I'll do the assignment. And I'm glad Jason is actually making us do this assignment, because we did need to set goals and all. He's a pretty good instructor. I like instructors who care more about actually helping the band then just making themselves look good. Because Really how pathetic are you when you need to look cool in front of people who are way younger than you and have a completely different mind structure so far? It just doesnt work. Anyway..
My Goals: 1) I'd like to make the flute and Piccolo section better this year than it ever has been. So far we're doing really good. I'm really proud of my section this year. And already the section's problem of constant drama will be gone. FINALLY. We can't fight anymore. All six of us have always gotten along and been pretty good freinds, we've all six been out on a shopping trip together before homecoming last year, and we're already planning a pizza sleepover party for sometime soon. 2) I'd Like to get along better with instructors. alot of the time I just dont like them. But our staff this year is actually really good. Probably because we know they are all people we can trust Because Mr. P knows them. 3) I'd like to be a better marcher and musician. I need to memorize ALL of the music. And I need to know exactly where I'm going in the drill. not that that's been a problem in the past, but It's a good goal to have with a new show every year.
Goals for the Band: 1) First of all we need to STOP WASTING TIME. I dont care if you have ADHD and "Cant help it" Because you get distracted. Not a good enough excuse anymore. It's really getting on my nerves when people get completely off topic and waste time. 2) The Disrespect issue needs to go. NOW. How many times have we been asked to simply not talk when an intructor or officer is trying to talk to us or someone else? Every Rehersal. And no one seems to get it. I'm getting really sick of it. People need to just make it a habbit to go right to stand by when we arent doing anything. That will help alot in the Not wasting time problem. 3) The Rumors. like Mr. P said, they get all distorted and changed as they move around the band and people get the wrong ideas. And it's just plain immature. here's my goal for the whole band. just GROW UP.

[glow=blue,2,300]I'm a pretty motivated person, so I know that I'm going to write down these goals here, do my best to achieve them, and pretty soon I'll have new ones. For now, they include:
1) To take all advice from those Drum Majors and instructors who are more experienced than I (Ryan, Mr. P, etc.).
2) To personally improve as a conductor, and thereby, as a musician.
3) To set the best example for all band members by following rules and doing all my duties.
4) To assist the band in learning music/ drill/ basics as much as possible so that we can successfully qualify for States, and even Finals.
5) To build a better relationship between the sections as well as between the band and the instructors. Only then can we develop the respect which is necessary to effectively utilize all practice/ rehearsal time.
6) To develop a much more unified, much more disciplined, face for our band. Other bands would respect us much more if we only presented ourselves better at games and competitions (such as marching properly everywhere we go, not talking at attention, and always listening to the people in charge).
There are so many more things that could be listed here, but I believe that's enough for now.[/glow]

Kevin Lee Center Snare on the left (Hetero lifemate of Steven Manry)
Personal Goals: 1. Just get better in every facet as far as musicianship goes. Marching, reading, chops, I want to improve, last year was a really bad year for me in that respect and I want to get so much better. I'm re-dedicating myself this year and its no nonsense. I'm out to be the best drummer I can be and I'm not gonna lie I want to help this drumline and this organization set the standard for years to come. 2. I want to be a better leader. A lot of you know I failed in that respect last year and I was given the job as captain again. I want to redeem the sub-par outing I had a year ago. 3. I want to have fun and enjoy what I do. Again, last year was not good in that respect. Without meeting this goal I will fail to reach the other two. I want to project that and display it in my playing and in my marching, I want the crowd to feel that emotion.
Band Goals: 1. I want to see everyone dedicated. I mean come on people, is half an hour minimum every day of practicing that hard? We're all in school, we all have tight schedules and realistically we cant all practice every day as much as we could or should. But honestly a little dedication is all that is asked of you; if you aren't here to have fun and get better, then why are you here? Get your expletive deleted in order, I mean come on, if a drummer can do it, you've got no excuse. 2. I want this band to have attitude, to have focus. There are too many people who walk instead of march, who move at attention, who don't take this activity seriously. Yes you are supposed to have fun but some of that fun is looking pretty hardcore. I've been lucky to have someone like James Gray teach me what focus is all about. We talk about people fearing us, yeah they fear that we'll score well because we are getting better. But I want them to FEAR us. I want heads to turn and people to whisper. We deserve that kind of respect, but only if we work for it and display it. When people hear that they're going up against Countryside, I want them to be afraid. 3. You might have noticed recurring themes, so I'm just going to say it flat out. I want people to respect us, and I want us to have a blast doing this activity, because thats what its all about. The Cavies, The Cadets, BD, not even they can get first place all the time, but you'd better bet people respect them, and you'd better bet that they love what they do. At the end of the day thats all you can ask for. If you enjoy yourself, if you have a blast with this, if you dedicate yourself like you should, people will respect you, and you will have fun.
I'm done ranting ;D

Kevin thanks you for the kind words about me ;D. When I first start marching band I did not understand fully what focus was. I knew I needed to stand at attention or I get my but wiped but focus is so much more then that. It become secondary after you have done it for so long and thought about what needs to get done not what do we have to do now.
Goals as an instructor would be:
1) Help this band understand that what the staff teaches does not just apply to band life but to every day life. Most of what I have learned in Marching Band and Drum Corps was and is applied to my daily life and has helped me through some very hard times.
2) To help this band understand its full potential before the season is over. Most bands are never given the chance to reach their full potential because of ether lack of staff, lack of instruments, lack of support, ext, but this band has been given every opportunity to push forward and to rise up to something the school has never seen.
Sorry I tried to think of three but I only had time for 2. I am so happy Jason started this and yes not only Jason but the whole staff cares about this band and wants to see great things from it. I have hit my goal in the past by helping this drum take home a 1st place percussion trophy from States 2 years ago but what is in the past is in the past and I am starting with a new sheet of paper.
One of my favorite quotes is: Life is 20 % of what happens to you and 80% how you react to it.
How will you react?

Rene Amaya, Top Bass (the smallest bass for you who don't know)
Personal Goals:
1. I want to be able to improve myself as a marcher and as a musician, so that after I graduate I can move on and make it into a corps and be able to march well in college.
2. I want to be able to set an example as an officer (for those who don't now I'm 1st vice president). I think I did a good job of it last year and this year I want to do as good of a job if not better. And I I'll make mistakes at time but I'll still try hard to make up for that.
3. Biggest thing I want to do is have fun. I want to be able to have as much fun this season as possible but still be able to work hard at the same time.
Band Goals
1. I want this band to have unity which is somthing we've lacked a lot in the past. We need to be there for each other during the good times and the bad times. And not start rumors of each other cause we hurt each other and the program when we do that.
2. I want this band to have that hardcore attitude. I don't mean drum corps style attitude, I mean we work hard from the moment we start a rehearsal to the moment we end a rehearsal. And as hard as it is to also try and let go of anything that is bothering you during the day and just focus on your instrument and marching when we're practicing and/or performing. Like our instructors tell us "Practice like you Perform"
3. And again the biggest Thing I want this band to do is have fun. You play better, march better, and just plain feel better when your having fun while your performing. And you feel so much better at the end of a show when you've enjoyed it because eventhough you're tired you'll still feel like you can keep going.
ok those are my goals and hope you like them Fingers :-D
